The purpose of the flag is to help create visibility for the genderqueer community and related identities. The three colors are not meant to indicate that any of these identities are entirely separate or opposites of one another conceptually they are all interrelated as well as key concepts in their own right, and there are more concepts and variation of gender and sexuality present that tie into genderqueer identities than can be listed here. those whose identities are defined outside of and without reference to the binary.
White (#ffffff): Meant to represent agender identity, congruent with the gender neutral white on the transgender pride flag.ĭark Chartreuse Green (#498022): The inverse of the lavender color meant to represent “ third gender” identity, i.e. Also represents the “queer” in genderqueer, as lavender is a color that has long been associated with “queerness”, including gay, lesbian, and bisexual communities. Lavender (#b57edc): The mixture of blue and pink (traditional colors associated with men and women, present on the transgender pride flag) as lavender is meant to represent androgynes and androgyny. The meaning of the colors in the genderqueer flag design are as follows: The design is aesthetically similar to the gay and lesbian, bisexual, transgender, asexual, and pansexual flags that is, horizontal bars of color with special meaning.
The genderqueer pride flag is a Marilyn Roxie design, 3rd and final version created in June 2011, modified from version 1.0 in June 2010, and 2.0 in September 2010. Here’s a better version made by to deal with the problems with my proposal/suggestion:Īnd are some more gay man/MLM flags (including PNC and SAM gays) made by other people that I’ve been collecting (gallery is incomplete though, please send any missing flags/sources to me).The following description was taken from Marilyn Roxie's About the flag page: I’m not quite sure what to do regarding damage control around the exclusionists that are using my flag, but I started by working with several gay men in a pride, and my personal server to come up with meanings for each stripe (based on flag) that explicitly include GNC, nonbinary, trans, ace/arospec, split-attraction, and pronoun nonconforming gay men (also made it prettier). I saw it around a few times but didn’t realize it took off like that and was being credited to a truscum, no less. They never followed up on it so I posted it on Deviantart for opinions but didn’t get much interaction there. Since the anon that asked me about a gay man flag suggested one that was too similar to the butch lesbian flag. Was never meant to be a finalized design (especially since I’m nonbinary and bi), it was simply a suggestion Low/non-dysphoric trans people, and anyone else who may get excluded.īasically, any identity (that’s notcentered around harming people or animals) is amazing and valid.
Lesbians (or anyone, really), GNC trans people, people who use the SAM, Neurogenders and neurorientations) pronoun noncomforming gays and I am fully supportive of allĪspec identities, “MOGAI” genders (including xenogenders, kingenders,
I never want any of my flags being used to exclude part of the LGBTQAI+/MOGAI community. I am beyond pissed off at this, especially since I don’t remember anyone telling me it was stolen. Transphobes to exclude trans and nonbinary gay men. Also, it seems like it’s been co-opted by truscum and Wording it in a way that made people think it was made by them (andĪlso “official”).
Mod Hermy of the Pride-Flags Deviantart here: I just found out during my hiatus from this blog that there’s been a lot of discourse surrounding this flag that I helped make.ĪPPARENTLY some truscum/transmed took this flag and reuploaded it (that got 8.2k notes vs the 9 notes my original post has),
